FACULTY

Level I Pedagogy:  Kay Lehto (BM and MEd, Michigan State University; Master Class Certificate, University of Memphis) teaches K-5 music for the Clark County School District at a magnet school for the creative arts.  She is an active workshop presenter and has presented at national AOSA, MENC and TMEA conferences.  This is Kay’s 17th year with the UNLV course. Kay served as co-chair for the 2000 and 2004 AOSA National Conferences and chaired the Conference Committee on the AOSA National Board of trustees for 2005-2006.  In 2007 Kay was honored for her early teaching and as founder of the Children’s Music Festival in the Cayman Islands.  She is currently serving as Recording Secretary on the AOSA National Board of Trustees.

Level II Pedagogy:  Sue Mueller (BM, University of Kansas; MED, Leslie College; Master Class Certificate, University of Memphis) taught K-5 music for the Clark County School District for 25 years until her appointment as Assistant Professor of Music Education for the University of Las Vegas, NV.  This is Sue’s 17th year with the UNLV course. She is an active presenter for local chapters and conferences for AOSA and MENC and Carl Orff Canada. Sue has served on the National Board of Trustees for the American Orff-Schulwerk Association as Region II Representative, National Conference Chairperson (2002 conference), Vice President and President and is currently the 2010 AOSA National Conference Chair to be held in Spokane, WA.
 
Level III Pedagogy:  Vivian Murray-Caputo (BA, Miami University; Master Class Certificate, University of Memphis) is an Orff specialist at Berkshire Country Day School in Lenox, MA.  She has taught in public schools in New York, Massachusetts, and in Memphis, TN.  Vivian has presented many workshops for AOSA chapters and for MENC and AOSA national conferences.  She teaches Levels I, II and III at many universities throughout the country.  She served on the AOSA National Board of Trustees as the Region V representative and as national co-chair for the 2005 AOSA conference in Birmingham.  She has been an instructor for IAJE Teacher Training Institutes, and she continues to sing with big bands and small combos.
 
Level I, II & III Movement:  Douglas Bowser (BM, Grove City College; MEd, UNLV; Master Class Certificate, University of Memphis) has been teaching K-5 music for the Clark County School District for eleven years.  Douglas has extensive training in the Dalcroze Pedagogy from Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh.  Douglas is an active presenter for local, state and national AOSA and MENC chapters.  In 2006, Phi Delta Kappa chose Douglas as “The Teacher of the Year” for the State of Nevada and honored him and his school with a grant for $10,000.  Douglas is a National Board Certified teacher specializing in Early/Middle Childhood music.
 
Level I, II & III Recorder: Cathy Ameling (BS, Ball State University; ME, UNLV; Orff Level I, University of Wyoming; Orff Levels II and III, UNLV; World Music Drumming Levels I and II, Las Vegas; 2005 Orff Institute International Summer Course, Salzburg, Austria) teaches K-5 music in an urban setting for the Clark County School District in Las Vegas, NV.  Cathy has taught Level I recorder for Southern Utah University and Levels I, II & III for UNLV.  Cathy is published in Las Vegas Writes II and has created mastery application questions for the current edition of the CCSD Elementary Music Orff Curriculum, Kindergarten through Fifth Grade.  She is the founder of the “Pied Pipers Recorder Consort”, and performs with “Amici della Musica”, a Las Vegas based early music ensemble.   She is a National Board certified teacher specializing in Early/Middle Childhood music.
